WCB Independence Allowance Payments


Mr. Hart asked the Government the following Question No. 1107, which was answered by the Hon. Mr. Forbes:

To the Minister of Labour:
(1) How many retroactive independence allowance payments to injured workers did the Workers’ Compensation Board make in the fiscal year 2002/03?
(2) What was the total dollar value of those payments?

Answer:
Note: The WCB fiscal year is a calendar year.
(1) Once a claimant qualifies for an Independence Allowance, WCB makes no distinction between retroactive or ongoing payments.
(2) In 2002, the total amount paid in Independence Allowances was $2,270,820, and the total number of individuals qualifying, as of December 31, 2002, was 1,059.


Mr. Hart asked the Government the following Question No. 1108, which was answered by the Hon. Mr. Forbes:

To the Minister of Labour:
(1) How many retroactive independence allowance payments to injured workers did the Workers’ Compensation Board make in the fiscal year 2003/04?
(2) What was the total dollar value of those payments?

Answer:
Note: The WCB fiscal year is a calendar year.
(1) Once a claimant qualifies for an Independence Allowance, WCB makes no distinction between retroactive or ongoing payments.
(2) In 2003, the total amount paid in Independence Allowances was $2,187,724, and the total number of individuals qualifying, as of December 31, 2003, was 1,147.


Mr. Hart asked the Government the following Question No. 1109, which was answered by the Hon. Mr. Forbes:

To the Minister of Labour:
(1) How many retroactive independence allowance payments to injured workers did the Workers’ Compensation Board make in the fiscal year 2004/05?
(2) What was the total dollar value of those payments?

Answer:
Note: The WCB fiscal year is a calendar year.
(1) Once a claimant qualifies for an Independence Allowance, WCB makes no distinction between retroactive or ongoing payments.
(2) In 2004, the total amount paid in Independence Allowances was $2,811,052, and the total number of individuals qualifying, as of December 31, 2004, was 1,372.


Mr. Hart asked the Government the following Question No. 1110, which was answered by the Hon. Mr. Forbes:

To the Minister of Labour:
(1) How many retroactive independence allowance payments to injured workers did the Workers’ Compensation Board make in the fiscal year 2005/06?
(2) What was the total dollar value of those payments?

Answer:
Note: The WCB fiscal year is a calendar year.
(1) Once a claimant qualifies for an Independence Allowance, WCB makes no distinction between retroactive or ongoing payments.
(2) In 2005, the total amount paid in Independence Allowances was $2,436,919, and the total number of individuals qualifying, as of December 31, 2005, was 1,438.


Mr. Hart asked the Government the following Question No. 1111, which was answered by the Hon. Mr. Forbes:

To the Minister of Labour:
(1) How many retroactive independence allowance payments to injured workers did the Workers’ Compensation Board make in the fiscal year 2006/07?
(2) What was the total dollar value of those payments?

Answer:
Note: The WCB fiscal year is a calendar year.
(1) Once a claimant qualifies for an Independence Allowance, WCB makes no distinction between retroactive or ongoing payments.
(2) In 2006, the total amount paid in Independence Allowances was $2,679,357, and the total number of individuals qualifying, as of December 31, 2006, was 1,655.
