Calverts Action Plan Empty And Lacks Vision

Last week, Premier Lorne Calvert and Minister Eric Cline unveiled Saskatchewans Action Plan. The consensus is in: this is not a plan, its a fluff document. There isnt one real specific goal in the entire report. Basically, this action plan is a lesson in rhetoric.

The plan contains 81 recommendations and NONE of them are action statements. If this is the guiding document of the NDP government, then we should all be afraid. Its not specific enough to grow our economy, enhance social programs or keep youth in this province. Once again, we see a tired, out-of-date NDP government lumbering along. This is not what Saskatchewan needs now. With natural resource prices skyrocketing, we need a plan which allows our grandchildren to benefit from this boom. This plan doesnt even come close to getting us there.

Heres what the pundits have to say about it:

Its not worth the paper its written on. - John Gormley, Sept. 22, 2005, John Gormley Live

Evidently, numbers just aren't all that important to the NDP government anymore. Neither are goals. Murray Mandryk, Sept. 21, 2005 Regina Leader Post

Lets see action, not hear intentions Right now, most of the 81 points are pretty limp. Murray Lyons, September 23, 2005, Saskatoon Star Phoenix.

Last year, our leader Brad Wall released an economic plan titled The Promise of Saskatchewan. Unlike Calverts plan, it actually includes specific, measurable and accountable ways to improve the economy. It outlines whats not working and what needs to improve. Where Calvert prefers vague rhetoric, we in the Official Opposition Saskatchewan Party prefer action.
